This session will examine the biology and behavior of subterranean termites. Biological processes covered will include: eusociality, colony dynamics, metamorphosis, caste system, and a non-circular lifecycle. Behaviors covered will include swarming/mating, colony defense, cryptobiotic foraging, nest/colony infrastructure, and multiple other worker caste functions. Emphasis will be placed on how these biological processes and behaviors optimize current management tools.
